It may be cold outside and the days are short. But the long cold nights make for nice fun warm times indoors with the family! And all the snow well, the kids are making the best of it and Mom is trying to keep things warm by heating up the stove with yummy food on a regular basis!
Curt and Charly keeping themselves entertained during Family Scripture "Study!" Notice the Binky in Charly's mouth? Many of you know she refused to take a Binky at about 4 months old.(about the time she quit sleeping good too) Well now I guess. . . . . .
. . . . .she's making up for lost time! She even had a third one she was trying to get in her mouth but couldn't make it work. It was quite hilarious, she was dancing around and just being a total goof! She knew we thought it was funny so she kept doing it. Of course she still doesn't take a Binky but does chew on them every once in a while cause they make pretty good teethers. And of course are always good for a laugh!
Oh how I treasure our Family Time! Right now we are reading "The Home Ranch" the third book in the Ralph Moody "Little Britches" series! We absolutely LOVE these books! We laugh, we cry, we learn! If you look closely at the picture you will see why I enjoy these times so much. Curt is coloring, Matt is looking at a Math book, Charly is looking at one of her books, and Missy is listening to Dad read! Great Times!
As you know we have had LOTS of snow the past few weeks!
The kids are making the best of it!
The benefits of having a sloped front yard;)
They spent lots of time outside playing and shoveling snow the other day while it was still snowing cause it's actually "warmer" when it's snowing! After all that work and play Mom decided it was definitely a hot coco time!
So I made this!
Rich and Creamy Hot Carob
2 cups rice milk
2 rounded Tablespoons organic raw carob powder (may use more if you want it more "chocolaty")
3 Tablespoons agave nectar or desired sweetener may add more or less depending on how sweet you want it
1/2 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
pinch of salt (optional)
1/2 Tablespoon coconut oil (optional if you want it more rich)
Mix ingredients into a small pot on the stove! Stir till nice and warm do not boil!
Also I plan on making this tonight! It's easy, WARM, comforting, and oh so good!
French Lentil Soup
3 tablespoons extra–virgin olive oil
2 cups chopped onions
1 cup chopped celery stalks plus chopped celery leaves for garnish
1 cup chopped carrots
2 garlic cloves, minced
4 cups (or more) vegetable broth
1 1/4 cups lentils
1 14 1/2–ounce can diced tomatoes in juice
Balsamic vinegar (optional but I think it's a must)
i wish that myles only liked to chew on his binkies. i am afraid he will still be sucking them at night when he gets married....it could happen!?
i love that you guys love reading as a family....it is so classic, so old fashioned, so uncommon, so wonderful! it is too bad the blasted t.v. was invented...i think it would solve a lot of this worlds problems if families would pull the plug and open a good classic book. but what do i know???!! ;)
hooray for your recipes. you seriously are amazing. i love when you post recipes, so i don't have to go hunting new ones down!
I can't wait to hug those kids, multiple binkies and all. I too am so glad that you guys read together. What a great way to spend cold winter evenings, or any evenings for that matter! The snow is beautiful, but, brrrr!!! Looks like the kids are having a blast anyway! The lentil soup looks yummy. Does it taste something like split pea soup? Maybe Dad would try it. Sure do love you all. Mom and Grandma O.
BRRRRR!!!! That snow looks like lots of fun. And the Hot Carob looks mmmm, mmm good. I love the pix of the kids doing their thing. You guys stay warm and healthy now, ya hear?
There is eternal influence and power in motherhood. Mothers Who Know Bear Children. Mothers Who Know Honor Sacred Ordinances and Covenants Mothers Who Know Are Nurturers Mothers Who Know Are Leaders Mothers Who Know Are Teachers Mothers Who Know Do Less Mothers Who Know Stand Strong and Immovable That is influence; that is power. From the talk "Mothers Who Know" by Julie B. Beck
What can you do, as a young mother, to reduce the pressure and enjoy your family more?
First, recognize that the joy of motherhood comes in moments. There will be hard times and frustrating times. But amid the challenges, there are shining moments of joy and satisfaction.
Second, don’t overschedule yourselves or your children. We live in a world that is filled with options. If we are not careful, we will find every minute jammed with social events, classes, exercise time, book clubs, scrapbooking, Church callings, music, sports, the Internet, and our favorite TV shows. Families need unstructured time when relationships can deepen and real parenting can take place. Take time to listen, to laugh, and to play together.
Third, even as you try to cut out the extra commitments, sisters, find some time for yourself to cultivate your gifts and interests.
Fourth, pray, study, and teach the gospel. Pray deeply about your children and about your role as a mother. Parents can offer a unique and wonderful kind of prayer because they are praying to the Eternal Parent of us all. There is great power in a prayer that essentially says, “We are steward-parents over Thy children, Father; please help us to raise them as Thou wouldst want them raised.” ~Russell M. Ballard~ From his talk "Daughters of God"
"I am opposed to free education as much as I am opposed to taking property from one man and giving it to another who knows not how to take care of it... I do not believe in allowing my charities to go through the hands of robbers who pocket nine-tenths themselves and give one tenth to the poor... Would I encourage free schools by taxation? No!" ~Brigham Young~
"Whatever you do, be careful in the selection of teachers. We don't want infidels to mold the minds of our children. They are a precious charge bestowed upon us by the Lord, and we cannot be too careful in rearing and training them. I would rather have my child taught the simple rudiments of a common education by men of God, and have them under their influence, than have them taught in the most abstruse sciences by men who have not the fear of God in their hearts." ~John Taylor~
"I would rather have my children exposed to smallpox, typhus fever, cholera, or other malignant and deadly diseases than to the degrading influence of a corrupt teacher. It is infinitely better to take chances with an ignorant but pure-minded teacher than with the greatest philosopher who is impure." ~Karl G. Maeser quoted in The Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, p. 307~
